As economic opportunities for young men decline, a growing number are turning to anti-feminist ideologies to make sense of their frustrations. This talk explores the complex intersection of gender, economics, and culture, unpacking how economic insecurity contributes to the rise of online misogyny and backlash against feminism.

Join us over breakfast for a critical discussion that connects labour market shifts, changing gender roles, and the politics of resentment, shedding light on one of today’s most urgent social dynamics.

SPEAKER

Javier Carbonell is a Policy Analyst at the European Policy Centre, a teaching associate at Sciences Po, Paris and a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on the far-right, inequality and youth policies.

From a professional perspective, Javier became interested in this topic because it brings together three central areas of his research: far-right voting patterns, social inequality, and youth politics. The anti-feminism expressed by young men sits at the intersection of these themes and has significant implications for voting behavior. He was also motivated by a desire to apply a feminist lens to the challenges young men face, with the aim of offering alternative narratives that might help steer them away from the manosphere.
